We call him Big Smoosh for a reason. He's a loving, smooshy, stocky Xolo mix with a big heart and a lot of love to give. He is about three years old, and completely hairless except for some short hair on his face. He weighs just under 25 pounds. Smoosh is being fostered in Richmond, VA, and is ready for his happily ever after.

He likes to play and, even though he doesn't have too many teeth, he really likes chew toys. Smoosh loves to play and interact with his people. He travels well crated in the car. He has free roam in the kitchen when his fosters leave, and he's never shown any destructive tendencies. He is also fine in a crate for short periods of time, if that's needed. He actually loves baths, especially the part where he's getting one-on-one attention from his person.

Smoosh loves to meet new people. On a recent trip to Myrtle Beach, he enjoyed getting to know new people and would snuggle with anyone. He was fine with kids, although he'd probably do best in a home that is not a super-active household, as he does have some challenges with his rear legs that limit his mobility as far as distance he can walk. A couple of blocks are good for him. On walks, loud cars did make him nervous, but he really does love going for walks in the doggy stroller. He needs steps to help him up onto the couch or bed, but can jump down with no trouble at all.

As far as his legs, here's what's going on. One of his legs has soft tissue issues, which can be helped by massage or maybe heat or swimming (low impact exercise) to help stretch it out and feel better. His other back leg-- which was injured in a car accident years ago, and not treated-- was reviewed by an orthopedist who recommened against surgery. The vet didn’t think he was in pain but that it may bother him from time to time. As he ages, he’ll most likely have to have meds to help with arthritis, etc. Mostly, his owners would need to be sensitive when he let's you know he's tired, and offer other ways for him to get playtime and exercise that don't stress out his legs.

He’s also limited as to hearing. Both ears are closed. He is an excellent candidate for basic obedience training, maybe using some sign language, to build a connection with his people. He’s very smart and is food motivated.

Smoosh is a really good boy. He is a healthy eater, but doesn't beg for food. He gets along well with other dogs, and is on the submissive side as far as temperament. He loves wearing clothes and will help when you're dressing him. He is a happy dog, with an outgoing, energetic personality. Think of him as a giant smile in a dog's body.
