We are no longer accepting applications for Joey. Please take a look at our other dogs. Thanks.
Joey C. is a happy boy that loves to be near people. He is a 7-yr old Chinese Crested weighing about 13 pounds.
He has very simple needs, the same things that many of us want. Joey wants to belong, he wants to be involved in family activities, and to be loved.
Joey really wants to sleep with his family but will sleep in a fluffy bed on the floor especially if it is heated. He loves car rides, walks, play time, fetch, snuggling, being in the middle of all the activity, squeeky fluffy toys and his family. Joey is smart, he will find a toy or a ball and drop it in front of someone to get them to play with him. He is a dream on leash in quiet settings and is so happy to have someone pay special attention to him.
When Joey first arrived he was leash reactive around other dogs, especially large dark colored dogs but with lots of positive distractions, happy walks, and an awareness that he is secure with his person, his concern around strange dogs has diminished somewhat. His new owner must be aware that he can become worried at times around large unfamiliar dogs.
Joey is a sensitive boy, harsh corrections are not needed. Sweet Joey becomes very excited to see kids, will sleep with the cat during his afternoon nap unless they run from him, if so, game on! He is gentle with the tiny female dog that shares his foster home but he would rather be with people and is not the best candidate to only be a companion for another dog. He is respectful of the other male dog in the house even though they are not friends. This is not Joey's fault, his foster brother is picky.
Joey C. is just adorable, he will be a wonderful companion in a home full of people that is willing to help him burn off energy, a few rounds of fetch or a couple of short walks a day will keep him happy and a home that will include him and let him know that he is important.
A fenced yard is preferred so that he can play with his human family, but a willingness to walk him often and continue to work on his occasional leash-reactivity will certainly be considered.
Joey is being fostered near Roanoke, VA. He is microchipped, vaccinated, on heartworm prevention, neutered, and ready for his new home! Applications welcome.
