Description:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN FERNANDO. AT THIS TIME, WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS, WHILE WE FOCUS ON REVIEWING THE ONES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN SUBMITTED. THANK YOU.
Fernando is a 4 yr old Xolo, weighing in at about 18-19 pounds. He is a loving companion, looking for a home where he will be an only dog. If that's what you're looking for, please read on!
Fernando came to us via a shelter where he was surrendered earlier this fall because he didn't get along with the other dogs in the home. We have observed enough issues in foster care to determine that he will be most successful in a home where he is the only dog. In the right home, he will be an amazing dog!
Nando is loving, and in true Xolo style, bonds quickly with his person and wants to be right with you to receive affection several times a day. He will also be content to sit across the room in the cuddle bed and nap while you get your work done. He has the potential to develop separation anxiety, so any adopter should be willing to help him find the balance of companionship and alone time.
He has started to engage with toys a bit, which is a great sign. He is not a fan of the recent cold weather. We'd love him to stay somewhere down south so he doesn't have to deal with prolonged cold winters. That said, he's very motivated to go outside, take care of business and come back in where it's warm. He seems to be house/potty-trained and has good manners in that area.
Fernando would be fine in a home with or without a fenced yard, as long as anyone without a fence would be willing to take him outside for several walks a day. He is friendly with all kinds of people, even strangers, but we do think any home with chidren, the kids should be at least 10 years or older. He seems to like things pretty calm. He is not a big barker.
As with most dogs, he would be happiest in a household where people are home more often than not, but in the end the most important thing will be that his adopters are willing to help him find balance and confidence along with a little more independence. A dog-savvy home would be best. A willingness to take him to obedience training would be a big plus.
Fernando is being fostered in Greenville, SC. He's been to an amazing vet, and is up to date on all his shots, neutered, microchipped, and heart worm negative. Since he is too large to fly in cabin, any approved adopter must be willing to pick him up in a personal vehicle. So consider how far you're willing to travel (as well as ABLE to travel given any current Covid restrictions) when you apply.
Still have questions? Please email Fernando's foster mom directly at [email protected].
