If you want an example of a quirky Chinese Crested... look no further! Valentino is a little goofball who wiggles, snorts, flops around and burrows in his blanket to the amusement of all. He's got the head-tilt down pat, and is super attentive and engaged with his person. He is also the perfect companion dog, happiest when he's snuggled up in your lap, and sleeping with you under the covers.

Valentino is 8 years old, neutered, and weighs about 11 pounds. He could stand to lose just a little weight. He is a picky eater... perhaps was fed table scraps in his last home, so switching him over to high quality dog food has been a transition. His legs are short, which do not slow him down or stop him from hopping up on the couch in one swift movement.

Valentino is new to the rescue, but so far, here's what we've observed. In addition to his goofiness, he is fine walking on a leash, but has not pottied yet while on a leash walk. He seems to prefer doing his business in the yard and does need to be taken out frequently. He seems to be a good candidate for belly-band-back-up, at least for now.

He is being fostered alongside other dogs, as well as cats. He is not nearly as interested in the other animals as he is with his foster mom. If the other dogs get worked up to bark at a passerby, Valentino stays quietly on the lap and does not join in. He tried growling at another dog for joining us on the couch, which is not tolerated. With correction (aka, "a ticket to the floor"), that was quickly nipped in the bud, as such behavior could escalate if it was allowed to continue.

Valentino is crated without issue while his foster mom is at work. He would be fine in a forever home with respectful, calm kids, and could join a small pack or be an only dog. Valentino would be thrilled to be the center of anyone's attention.

Valentino is neutered, up-to-date on all his shots and has tested heartworm negative. Our vet says he's in great shape, and would've assessed him as younger than eight. No heart murmur, no issues with his eyes, really in great condition! Applications are welcome, or you can stay tuned to see what else we learn about him in the coming weeks. Valentino is being fostered in Wilmington, DE and is small enough to travel in cabin if someone wants to fly to get him.
